Methodology
The Local News Network General Assembly Primary Voter Guide, published in partnership with Capital News Service, was produced by a team of 120 student journalists and 10 faculty members at the University of Maryland's Philip Merrill College of Journalism. Information from the voter guide will be made available for publication free of charge to any news outlet in Maryland.
LNN began this project by sending a candidate questionnaire to all 235 General Assembly candidates who face a competitive primary, and 141 of those candidates responded to the questionnaire. Candidate responses were edited only for grammar and style.
Student journalists also did background checks on all the candidates. Capital News Service stories will include details about candidates who have faced significant legal issues.
